Hi,
I gave 3 or 4 tries to Forty-Two with different DVD and I can't obtain an Avi file a size less than 700MB. I did the update, and now am running 1.02; that was suposed to clear the Divx (1CD) situation.
But I gave a try with Citizen Kane (with subtitles) : the avi file works great, but its size is higher than 700MB (around 720MB)
What do I do wrong ?
Does any one know how to solve that situation ?
thanks for answering...

Why do you need it under 700mb? To get it on a cd? The reason I ask is because I've had Toast accept and burn disks that totalled more than 700mb. First give it a try and see if it accepts it.

I gave a try and Toast 5.2 didn't allow to burn the Avi file... that's the all point !
I don't know what to do ...

Best bet is to cut out some of the beginning and end crap
20 megs is about the length of the credits and maybe a beginning shot of the producers and what not
I usually have the same problem, but use quicktime to nibble away at the ends until its down to 698 (you need 2 megs for the desktop files unless you do an ISO disk)
Hope this helps
Best of luck to you -
but why should I cut something that should be under 700MB in the first place ?
I thought the phase before encoding was supposed to determine the ratio of encoding to make the file under 700MB (in the Divx (1CD) case)...
I don't get it, really...
I don't wan't to cut the studio logo, nor the end credits... I wan't the entire film...
thanks anyway... -
Perhaps this will help you
Since you dont want to clip the ends

Of course, in this enlighted day and age (on PCs anyway) most folks just bite the bullet and make 2 disk movies since 1CD-sized movies *always* end up looking soooo much worse than a split larger on, its not funny
No matter what "motion vectors", how many passes, whatever...the data rate is just too low to get something really watchable and enjoyable.
However, for those that "like this kind of thing" v1.5 lets you set the datarate as low as you like for 1CDR Divx mode.

thanks alot K. for taking time to reply,
so, I'll wait 1.5 and keep my faith in your good work...
(btw, nice to have a clear answer by developers themselves... GREAT ! )
Keep up the good work, and when I'll find my use of Forty-Two clearly defined... I will surely donate !!!
keep it up !
