  1. This is strange. When capturing with VDub and I leave the program open and exposed to the screen, I drop no frames.
When i minimize the screen to the taskbar and bring it back up it drops frames. Can anyone tell me why?

    Operating System - win2k
    Capture Card - ATI 8500DV
    Processor - AMD-t-bird 1GHz

  2. ANYTHING which causes ANY hard drive activity, particularly if OS or Swap file is on same drive or channel as capture drive, can cause dropped frames. The system is maxed out on throughput. Lowering capture resolution can help this, as will seperate capture drive on seperate channel. Also lots of RAM.

Simplest answer is most obvious one - do not minimize capture app after starting.

  3. Thanks Nelson37. I do have my operating system on a seperate drive and channel and also have 768mb of memory. My resolution is also at it's lowest. This system is solely for capturing. I have only the apps i need for capturing. I do all my Video encoding, editing and burning on another PC.

The reason why i ask this question is because i don't always want anyone else to see what I'm capturing. Maybe there is a setting to keep the capture from showing. I will check into that later. I am now at work.

    Thanks

  4. There is a "Hide on Capture" or similar switch in Vdub, also I think a "do not display input/output", this keeps it blank when you have to maximize it to close it.

Check VDUB's priority setting in task manager. My setting is always LOW for encoding(this is persistant, and survives re-boots), so I can do other things while encoding. For capturing it should be Normal or Above Normal. NEVER EVER set it to HIGH or REALTIME, you will lock up.
