I want to capture miniDV tape directly to VCD format using my PCI firewire card. I am using SONY miniDV camcorder.
I am using Ulead video 6 currently but I think there should be other pgms that can encode to mpeg1 in higher quality.
Please help.

face it, you can never achive direct vcd capture of good quality. it is always better to capture at higher resolution and then encode to vcd.
u can try windvr andput to highest motion vector 16. -
Intervideo WinDVR2. Set the motion precision to around 12. It comes out pretty darn good for real time encoding.

How do you set "motion precision"? I don't see that option anywhere.
I'm getting pretty good results (in my opinion) with a copy of NTSC VCD using 1150 bitrate instead of their 1090.
I have a 2 mb video clip I'll send to anyone that wants it. -
I use the Dazzle 2 not bad for real time encoding I also heard that winpvr250 and winpvr350 is also good like the Dazzle AIW are not that bad with windows 2000 and Xp software but not as good as Dazzle and winPVR
