Has any one come across dvd disk that will play in a standalone dvd player but not in the computer dvd-rom.
ok heres my problem i have a sony dvd-rom works fine on other movies i have ripped. ok but i rented this documentary after i watched it i then went to rip it with the dvd decrypter program the best it then decided that it couldnt read the disk. after a while i gave up the next morning i tried it again i successfully ripped the first few files then when it came to the main vob file it started to rip then decided it wasnt going to read it any more.
try for about 2hrs retrying to read the disk but i wont work.
so what do people think about that is it a crap dvd disk when it was pressed or what?

You said rent.....
I cant tell you the number of rentals I've had that wont' play until I CLEAN them. Warm water and soap does wonders. Use your fingers, that's enough abrasion. Some DVD players are more sensitive than others to dirt and grime. Scratches are another story. My DVD player skips over scratches, but my DVDROM drive gets upset and reports the error. To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
sorry to say mate but the dvd was clean as a glass except for a few surface scratches which doesnt make much difference and i did clean it before i tried to rip it

I had that happen on my samsung drive. Now it was probably just the laser but it got worse and worse and happened on more and more discs. Before I tried leaning the lens I got a new drive, but it might be worth trying a lens cleaner.
