I have managed to make VCDs and the quality is good but how do I make them so that they are not in Widescreen if it is at all possible.

    Thanks

  2. First off, we need to clarify your question. Your Thread Title says "Widescreen to Normal size". Well, if the video you are converting is in "Widescreen" then that is "Normal". That is the way the movie was filmed.

However, if you want to butcher a film by forcing it into what is known as a 4:3 or "Pan and Scan" ration then you can fake it using TMPGEnc.

First off, you should start with a clipped video. By clipped I mean that you should clip off the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen so that only the actual video is there to be encoded. Then, set the "Arrange Method" in a way that fills the screen with as little stretch or squeeze as possible. You can do this all from the Advanced tab under settings using the "Clip frame" option. I would recommend cueing up a portion of the video that has bright enough colors and detail to allow fine adjustments.

First try "Full Screen". Then try "No Margin". See which looks best. Feel free to play around there. Once you are satisfied, encode your video file and burn to VCD.

The video that will be output is not going to be true "Pan and Scan" since you will not actually be panning around the video screen to ensure that the action and/or dialog is in focus. In otherwords, there may be alot of action that is clipped out. These arrange methods may have to do some stretching and/or squeezing to produce the resolution you want so keep that in mind and look at the preview window to make your own judgement.

While I don't condone such butchering of any artistic intent, the above directions should help you to achieve your goal.

    Good Luck
