  1. As a newbie to DVD copying, could someone please recommend which of these tools I should use? Are there any major differences between them?

    Many thanks for any help!

  2. well, i don't know if ill be too much help but ill put in my two cents. im partial to smart ripper, ive never had one problem with it. im not a guru on either program but one of the major differences i have noticed between the two is that DvdDecryptor gives more information on what you are burning. while smart ripper just rips what you tell it do. they both do excellent jobs in ripping perfect dvd's. like i said ive never had a problem with smart ripper. the only thing i can suggest is. try doing a few movies with each program and see which you like the best. for me, i dont even bother with those anymoe. i just use DVDXCOPY and make perfect quality dvd "backups". try looking into that to DVD2one, if all you want to do is make dvd discs out of the movies you rip. good luck man

If I have limited time with a DVD I sometimes rip it twice, once with dvddecrypter and once with Smartripper.

Reason being that I once got caught out and couldn't get the rip to work with Smartripper and no longer had access to the original DVD by the time I discovered a problem. I 'obtained access' to the original DVD again and used dvddecrypter which worked fine.

This was probably a one off but setting a rip going a second time was no real overhead as I don't sit with my PC when doing it and it is handy having a fresh untouched copy on your hard disk incase you screw something up when using IFOEdit etc.

If I don't need to rip twice I default to DVDDecrypter.
