  1. I have a 20 mb mpeg1 movie file, and I need to reduce the file size.

I have been told if I convert it to avi then this will greatly reduce the size (I dont want to sacrifice a lot of quality though).

I tried using Virtualdub, but the file size was bigger than b4.

Can anyone give me a simple program, that will reduce the file size, and output an avi which will play on anyones computer (no crazy codecs which have to be installed)

    thx

VDub with DivX compression ought to give you smaller size than the corresponding MPEG. If "anyone" has DivX codecs installd - who can tell?

For DivX some say 3, some say 5, none say 4.
MP3 is great for audio. Other possibilities is AC3 (and raw PCM, but that's not that efficient...)
