  1. Ok I ripped a movie that was just under 2 hrs at 2520 kbps (standard --svcd?)

I used sefty's guide using the following programs:
    1. ripping > smartripper
    2. fraqme serving > dvd2avi
    3. encoding >tmpgenc

Now the only two things I didn't follow was :
I used manual mode in tmpegenc not wizard mode and also
I didn't use source range in tmpgenc. I made just 1 file

The movie plays fine and now I want to put it on cd-rs.
This is where I get confused

    So here are the questons:
    1. Is 2520 standard svcd?
    2. do I need to use a bitrate calculator?
    3. How many cd-rs do I need ? I thought you could only put 30-40 minutes of svcd quality on cd-r but when I looked at tmpegenc wizard mode i got a message saying "only up to 50 minutes'

    Thanks in advance

  4. you should you use the wizard because for a newbie it leads you thru the process and at the end of the wizard, it will tell you how much of the movie will fit on the disk and you can adjust the kps to match. You can get almost 70 minutes of svcd on a cd - it will just be of low quality. Once you get above the 70 minutes the biterate gets too low where a lot of dvd players will not play correctly. What I do is take a 1hr 58 min movie and decide that this would be the max length for 2 disks. I literally split the movie in half (using source range) and adjust the kps at the end of the wizard to fit the disk (which is around 1700kps). You will get better results doing it that way... go to http://entiendo.gotnet.net to see an example of how to use tmpgenc.

  5. Thanks dbecker

I'll try again, I was having trouble with the wizard.

Also 1700kbps isn't much better than the standard vcd 1150kbps, I am hoping to get better than that using 3 cdr's

Anyone else wwant to throw there two cents in.

    Thanks in advance
