  1. Please, please, please could somebody spare a few minutes to just give me simple instructions for making a dvd from an avi file???

Do I need to use Tmpegenc and Virtualdub first or can I just make it straight from a package like Dvd Movie Factory or Dvd Workshop?

    you don't need vdub.

use tmpgenc to make a dvd compliant mpeg2 file from the avi source. (use the newbie guides for this if you don't understand me)

a package like ulead whatever will then accept the mpeg2 file to burn.

if your avi has sound, it will appear as the video AND audio source when you select it as the video source at the beginning of the tmpgenc wizard
