It figures something like this would happen to me. I had a problem in the past where every so often, a DVD+R would freeze or skip towards the very end of the disk. This happened on BOTH my standalone and DVD ROM, so I knew it was either the media, or the burn speed. It would be hard to believe it was the media, because I was using VERBATIM. But being that the media was 2.4x certified and I was burning at 2.4x, I figured that is what it was. I had NEVER had this problem with ANY 2x media. Anyway, I bought 100 ACCU's and 50 are made by Sony, the other 50, by Lead Data. Up until this point, they have all been great. Not a single problem. Now all of a sudden, I am getting down to the last 6 or 7 Lead Data's and I am noticing on the last two movies I burned, (The Pefect Storm, and Dick Tracy, both of which take up most of the disk space) are skipping and freezing towards the last few chapters. I figured it was the SAME exact problem I had before, but I decided to try these movies with my DVD ROM anyway, and to my surprise, THEY PLAYED PEFECTLY all the way through. This is really weird, because the symptoms are the SAME exact freezing and pausing towards the end of the disk, that I had with a few of the Verbatim DVD+R's.
My question though is that it doesn't seem to be the burn process this time, because HOW could my standalone freeze at the same exact chapter points on these two movies, but my DVD ROM plays them PERFECTLY all the way through? That seems VERY strange to me. I have been burning all my movies at 2x, and have watched many of them ALL THE WAY through, and they look and play just like the original. But these two are different. I think it is NOT a coincidence that this problem occurred towards the end of the batch of ACCU's. I'm wondering if the disks towards the end of this batch are made cheaper/worse then the ones at the beginning. I am going to try to burn the movies again at 1x. I am disappointed that this occured, because I thought that this problem was over for me, but I guess I was wrong.
The only thing is that last time my DVD ROM also froze towards the end, but not this time. If ANYONE can tell me HOW or WHY this may of happened, I would really appreciate it. For the life of me, I can't figure out HOW my DVD ROM plays these perfectly, but my standalone freezes towards the end. Another thing to note is that I tried a few movies in my standalone afterwards that take up the entire space of the disk, which I have alredy watched, and they still play perfectly all the way though. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Have you tried a different stand alone, not every Stand Alone is equal and you may have one that isn't very compatible. Almost guaranteed a new Stand Alone (new model, lots of old models on store shelves) would work better. On all my properly burned DVDs, they will not play properly or at all on some. A friend would not play one on his Notebook DVD player we did a Firmware upgrade for the DVD-ROM and it worked fine at that point. Since most standalones can't accept firmware upgrades, a new one may be best option???

thanks for the reply. Fortunately, that isn't the issue, because my standalone player is the most versatile on the market. It's the Philips DVD 724 AT 31 and has played EVERYTHING I've thrown in it. And every format as well. No problems whatsoever. However, since this post, i've concluded that there are problems with the type of media I am using when getting down to the last five or ten. I've since seen other posters with the same media, and the same problem, so I've started a thread on the "media" forum for this problem. Thanks again for your information though, and you are definitely correct. I had to take back a Sony because it claimed to be multiformat, but it really wasn't.
