  1. Greeting all!

This is my first post here. I have used this site as a reference for quite a while now. I was looking at making an SVCD or DVD out of some PAL VHS tapes and I thought I would ask this question.

Is a VCR NTSC/PAL specific or is it just the tapes? In other words if I play a PAL tape on my North American VCR would I get PAL output and be able to watch the tape on a PAL monitor? My computer can be set to handle the PAL input, and I can convert to NTSC with my computer, so once I have the PAL output I am all set.

If I need to get a PAL VCR then things are going to get more expensive and problematic..

Thanks for looking at the post!

If you play a PAL tape on a NTSC VCR you will only see static on your screen. There are multi system VCRs that can play either one, but I do not know how much they cost.
    Hello.
