I downloaded a divx file of minority report. It is namd:

    Minority Report (2002) (DVD-Screener) [CD 1-2] [DivX] [MP3] [English].avi
(I have the 2nd file also - no sound in it either)

I can see the video just fine, but there is no audio. The file claims that it's MP3, but I have 2 MP3 CODECS installed. I had only Lame installed, but it didn't work. Media player would always go searching online for the right codec and never found it. Then I installed the Radium MP3 codec as well. Still no audio. The audio compressions I have as listed by virtualdub:

    ACELP.net
    CCITT A-Law
    CCITT u-Law
    DSP Group TrueSpeech(TM)
    GSM 6.10
    IAC2
    IMA ADPCM
    Lame MP3
    Microsoft ADPCM
    Microsoft G.723.1
    MPEG Layer-3

    .
Here is the information VirtualDub gives me about the audio in this movie when I open the video file:

    Sampling Rate: 48000Hz
    Channels: 2(Stereo)
    Sample precision: 0-bit
    Compression: Unknown (tag 2000)
    Preload skew: 12000 samples (0.25s)
    #of frames: 98861
    Min/avg/max/total frame size: 12/1001/12000 (96650K)

If anyone has any idea what I need to do, please let me know. If you need to know anything more about my system or the file, just post a question, although I think I have pretty much covered everything here. Thanks!

Try saving out the audio (raw - no compression). Now, rename it to whatever.MP3 and try to open it. If it really is MP3, it will play fine thru winamp or whatever you use for MP3 playback. If not, then it's something else, like AC3 (use Headac3e to convert to WAV).

You were right about the AC3. I didn't have that codec installed. I went to the tools page, downloaded & installed the AC3 codec, now it plays back just fine. Thank you for the fast reply!
