  1. Everybody with problems using this method

Ok, DO NOT use dvtool to merge m2v, mpa or even mpeg, dvtool looks nice but it only uses the copy /b command, and that is not right for mpegs. If you want this to work proces every disc apart and use the method by NEXT (earlyer in this post) to join the vobs, then you will have a svcd on dvdr WITH chapters (every disc becomes a chapter) ,
how to join seperat vobs look here: http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/joinclip.html

You can even burn 2 or 3 svcd's on 1 dvdr, because every disk becomes his own chapter, and it also solves most of the sound out of sync problems. Like i earlyer sad, most out of sync problems start at the joining points, if you join vobs in the link above, sound and video stay together.

I'm thinking about to make a complete new guide using only ifoedit en vobedit, with permission of the original creators , ofcourse
This is a perfect method, i already made several svcd's on dvdr... wth no problems at all

  2. i have read and posted on this thread with great interest.....and now i have made a small guide made up from bits and peices mostly from this thrread/guide tho.

    heres the link. http://www.dvd-secrets.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18373

my method uses the joining vob stylee.

    ok pluses and minuses.......

ok joing vobs does produce a slight "glitch" at the vob join point...if the (S)VCD has a 1 second overlap u will get this second twice.
a small price to pay for a perfectly in synch movie tho i think.

for those that want chapters.......heres what i did.....
i put a retail dvd into my dvdrom...opened up IFOedit...found the VTS pertaining to the main move and got the celltimes from it.....then i just added this to all the vobs i authored...Voila...jobs a gudun.

please let me know what u think of my guide and feel free to suggest any improvements.

    Thank You

    KYUSS

  5. Hi

Great Guide!! Followed all the steps and managed to convert without a problem...took a bit of working out but got there in the end...THANKS TO ALL and especially to KYUSS for the small guide...

Few questions to KYUSS..What does the "Get VTS Sectors" do? in IFOEDIT.
I have noticed something odd...If I have SVCD (PAL) it plays back better in NTSC mode after DVD converstion and visa-versa...This is not relevant to NORMAL DVD's, VCDs or SVCD |ONLY on X-DVD(SVCD on DVD-r)|

md_mushroom > You don't join the mpeg's first you make the VOBS from each seperate mpeg (demultiplexed) and then join them together with VOBEDIT...Read KYUSS Guide (It Rocks!!)

    Many Thanks

    hi m8
    glad u liked the guide.
get vts sectors i think what this does is just to check thru the ifo files to make sure everything is ok...sometimes it will find a couple of things wrong...like stuff not in capital letters or just something wrong with a sector...just click "OK" and it will correct it for you....sometimes it will find nothing wrong.

    Thanks

  9. I used this method for 4 files (2 movies). After about 73 min into the first movie the auido went out of sinc. When I did just one movie I did however get it to work. I also masterd how to make chapters by creating a CellTimes file in notepad and doing a little math. If anyone needs help doing chapters a can go a little more in depth.

    lo m8
    did u join the mpegs?
    because that causes synch problems.
the method i use doesn't require joining the mpegs...only the finished vobs.

  14. Hi KYUSS,

I thought the guide was great....

Although it will not allow it to work (ifoedit ) with svcd's that are ntsc at 29 fps....

I believe, it make the film like up to 25% shorter than it should be.... might be a bug or something....

Could you give me any advise please if theres a way round this....

    Thanks

    Patrick

  15. not come across this problem yet m8y.....but i think i read on doom9s forum about ifoedit having issues with NTSC.

but to be honest...i couldn't tell u wether the vcds or svcds i used were NTSC or PAL or mixed.

have u tried it yourself then m8? did it make the movie shorter?

i have made a few multi movies this way.....i have mixed svcds and vcds on the same dvdr and not had any problems as yet.

the next one i do i will check and see if i can find a NTSC (S)VCD to bang on there as well to test.

    thanks for the feed back

  17. Ok, this is the problem I am having. I used isobuster to extract each mpeg file off 2 svcd discs. I used the option to extract only the m2p2 frames. I then used TmpgEnc to demultiplex each mpeg file into separate .m2v and .mpa files. This was done for both svcd mpeg files. Then I used IFOedit to author a DVD and let that create the 2 vob titlesets. I then followed the method which was posted by Next where it said to use vobedit to join the clips. The only problem is, vobedit will show me the correct VOB nav pack which is 1, so it has to be joined starting with VOB nav =2. Now, the program will not do this. I choose edit-join clips and it does nothing. What am I doing wrong? Any help will be appreciated.

  19. First off thanks to Wulf109, Next and all who have expanded on this thread. It's may be old hat to some but coming from DivX land it's all news to me. I must admit I got a great kick seeing a DVD > DivX > SVCD > VOB playing on an El-Cheapo DVD player, even better when I skipped the DivX step.

As no post is complete without a wee BUT here it comes ...

Without getting bogged down with one example - which is causing me grief - can someone say how alike the SVCD clips need to be, do all need the same number of audio tracks, be of the same size [eg 480x576] and have the same AR?

A little more expansion on 'title sets' as used in IfoEdit96 would be very nice too.

  20. There were a couple of posts about some settop DVD players displaying movies/clips at 2/3s vertical size if this ifoedit method is used. I had this problem on an Apex 1100WB, the clip played fine using a Ronin P215 and LiteOn 2001. I've a 4:3 PAL TV.

I discovered that telling the Apex setup to output WideScreen fixed the display issue - i.e. the clip was stretched vertically to the correct AR. Also if I told TMPGEnc to encode to 720x576 FullScreen [keep AR] the clip also played fine on the Apex without using the WideScreen setup trick.

I'm still working on merging direct-from-DVD VOBs with rolled-my-own VOBs to make a new DVD-R, the above methods give me hope.
