  2. Most makers have this as an option. My wife and my Dells both have burners.

  3. Jester700, what laptop from Dell do you have? I wasn't aware that Dell was offering DVD-Writers yet. Perhaps you were referring to the DVD-Combo drives that are commonly bundled with laptops? I'd be interested in looking into Dell's offering for DVD-Writers, however, so if you have any information (such as a part number) then I would really appreciate any info you could provide.

  4. Fujitsu C Series are an excellent choice as well. I have a 1yr old 800mhz P3 version w/ a DVD/CD-RW and it has worked flawlessly. I think the new C series with DVD-RW drives are among the least expensive ($1799 fully loaded) on the market (laptop w/ DVD burner drive built-in).

I would recommend one, and may buy one myself in the near future.

  5. AGH! Yes, that's what I meant. Sorry, bro, I gotta read better next time.

The three brands mentioned are the only ones I know of. Looks like Dell & HP are waiting another 6 months for DVD+R format burners to arrive.

Another possibility is a desktop burner in a firewire case. This is what I do, and it allows use on my laptop or desktop, plus might save some money. But it's definitely not as portable.

  6. didnt know fujitsy had a dvd burner out yet either... I have been waiting for the prostar 5654. 3 Ghz processor, dvd burner, but they said they are late, so I am looking for something else. I'll look into the fujitsu.

hmm, the fujitsu is pretty nice, but the fastest you can get it is 2 Ghz, and only 768 ram.

  7. I just recieved the Toshiba Satellite 5205-S703 about 3 days ago. DVD playback is flawless on it, the screen is beautiful(compares to my Samsung SynchMaster 191T), and I have used it to play movies on my TV and to play MP3's through my stereo, the wireless connectivity on this thing is remarkable(better than the D-Link 802.11b PCI card on my desktop), I am able to stream music off my desktop onto my stereo through this thing, all-in-all so far this thing is amazing. I just re-installed the OS to get all the crap they put on there off(In Toshiba's defense the recovery CD they give you allows for custom single application and driver install). I will do more testing later this week, but so far so good. As for the DVD-RW I have tested it doing a simple data backup to DVD-RW which worked flawless. The only down side is it is only a 1x DVD burner, but for me that is fine. It weighs in at around 10 pounds but I am still under 100 years so it is not a problem for me Though I have only had it for such a short time I have yet to find any flaws, other than price $2,300 at http://www.computers4sure.com/product.asp?productid=1359971&iid=938

  9. yeah, sorry still slightly excited.....just got it. I will curb my enthusiasm though. But it is a good laptop for those looking for a desktop replacement.

I also wanted to give a review of things people on this site would most likely do with it....as I had a hard time finding such a review when shopping for one myself.
