I was trying to follow the steps in this guide, but after finishing Step 3, but before Step 4, I don't know what to do. I set the conversion up, but how do I actually created the .wav file?
Thanks.

First off, you don't need to yell.
Secondly, I selected the Save Wav and nothing happend. -
What should happen when you select "Save wav" under the File tab is a dialog box pops up. It allows you to name the file and to save it into any location. Then after you select "save" a status box opens showing elapsed time. Did all of that happen? Perhaps it just got put into the wrong directory?

A dialogue box you say? I don't think I saw one. Would that be in the middle of the window, or could that information possibly be included in the bar along the bottom (I don't think it was there either, but it's worth a check).
I'll try rerunning the conversion and see what happens. -
Pops up in the middle, just like any other time when saving a file in windows.

I've gone back and tried to do this again, but after I name the .wav file and hit save, the following error appears:
The requested audio compression is not compativle with the input format. Check that the sampling rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format.
BTW, if anyone can point me the proper guide to convert this PAL to NTSC, that'd be great. -
What does Vdub say under "file information" for the audio in your file? You may not have the required codec installed. If you D/L and run Gspot from the Tools section, it will analyze your file and tell you.

I'm a little embarrased, I played the file and realized there's no sound
But here's what Gspot says. How do I know which codec I need and where to get it? I've already got several items from Nimo loaded.

Right there under audio format, AC3 and codec NOT installed. You need to install the AC3 codec first of all. I'm not sure if it can be found in the tools section under codecs, or maybe if you do a google search. (AC3 is a codec for Dolby digital surround sound.)
Personally I like to use Goldwave to extract and convert the AC3 to a Wav file. It's pretty simple, load your AVI (and wait) then select Save As (and wait). It's not fast but it does it all in one. Otherwise you can use Vdub and Headac3he.
First extract with Vdub, select Full Processing mode and No Compression then Save Wav. Although the file created has the extension .wav it isn't a wav file and needs to be converted using Headac3he (or Azid). Rename the file with the extension .ac3, load the .ac3 file into Headac3he and create the wav file. If Headac3he fails or gives an error then you can try Azid. It also converts AC3 to Wav but it is a command line program i.e. it operates in a dos window. I find Azid works better and is less prone to fail. The command is: Azid inputfile.ac3 outputfile.wav (You have to supply the names for the input and output files.) There was some guides for this at one time, you may want to do a search. Okay, I downloaded and installed the codec so I have sound in those video files, but Vdub tells me the same error, and Gspot still says the codec isn't installed (though I've run the installation several times. What now?
