If I capture an avi in VirtualVCR using Huffyuv 2.2.1 compression and then edit out the TV advertisements in VirtualDub and re-save the edited avi using Huffyuv will I lose any of the original avi's detail or quality.
I believe the answer is NO as Huffyuv is lossless. But I'm NOT 100% confident in the answer.

actually - if you read the documentation on the huffy site
it says huffyuv is LOSSY in YUV mode and lossless in RGB
however you will be VERY VERY hard pressed to notice any loss
I would say the answer is
You will not loose any quality (at least anything that can be seen by humans) -
if you use Vdub with the video processing mode set to direct stream copy you will lose nothing. this simply exports the frames left after editing, it doesn't re-encode them. it's also much faster!

Actually, if you read the documentation on the huffy site it says that it is lossy only when you convert from RGB to YUY2 because that conversion is lossy in itself.
For RGB input you also have the option of converting to YUY2 and then compressing that. (It's the last option in the drop-down list box.) This is not lossless, but often it doesn't matter because the same conversion is done anyway when you compress to MPEG or Indeo or any other lossy format.
