When I go to convert an xvid file, I first open it with virtualdub and extract the audio to a wav file. I noticed that when I opened the xvid file with tmpgenc it would freeze everytime, so i changed the priority of the directshow multimedia option so that it was at the highest position. Now tmpgenc worked, but I noticed that the fps that it said the movie was was incorrect. In virtualdub, my movie was 23fps but in tmpgenc it was 30 fps. I converted the first half of the movie as 30 fps but when playing it on my dvd player i noticed the sound was a little bit off and the picture was a little choppy too (hardly noticeable). I dont know whats wrong with the sound, either I'm converting with the wrong fps, or it could be that when I opened up virtualdub and loaded the movie it came up with an error about "improper vbr audio encoding". If I encode at 23 fps, will my problem be fixed? By the way I am converting Xvid to SVCD using 2-pass.

Usually when you change the framerate and add more frames to a file, your output is going to be off sync and choppy. Since your file in VirtualDub is 23.976fps, select the NTSCFilm Template in TMPGEnc as its 23.976fps also. Yes, your problem will be fixed if you encode at 23.976fps rather than adding more frames with 30fps which causes syncronisation issues.

    Hope That Helps!!! :P

Have you tried to use a different audio encoder, or have you tried frameserving?
