ok,i went thru the forums, & tried most of the programs. All i want to do is to rip DVD into avi. Some suggested Vidomi, but when i start it, it says that it isn't able to initialize. I tried to rip it off the DVD. Should i rip it into the harddisk first? If yes, which program?
Tried divxeasy also, but since i can't specify the file size, codec, etc, it sucks.
Tried DVD2avi, but the program doesn't let me rip it into a avi file, where there is both audio & video. The audio file has to be in a seperate file, & TMPengc is needed to join them up together (please correct me if i am wrong).
FlaskMpeg, it is nice, but i can't specify the file size.
All i am trying to do is to rip Lord of the Rings 2, into 3 avi files, where each avi file will be 1 hour long, 700MB in size each.
please comment. Thanks

Go to the tools section on the left. Download DVDx 2.0. It is freeware. The program will allow you to rip the dvd and convert it to an avi file. It has three output choices, vcd, svcd, and avi. If you have already ripped the movie via smart ripper you can load the VOB files directly into the program. There is also a way to encode the files directly from the DVD if you don't want to rip it first. In the DVD rip guide section on the left is a guide to ripping DVDs without having 8-10GB of hard drive space. It will tell you how to use DVDx to encode from the disc as you rip.

the best program to get the best rips is gordian knot
this is a all in one.it uses dvd2avi but you can have gordian knot convert the ac3 to mp3 and join it.

i dont know if any will rip exactly 1hr 700mb.
haven't riped lotr, since i'm antilord of the rings, but have riped a few 3 hr movies.it would come out 2.1GB(after cutting 3 700mb files one may be 1hr10min which is fine)and i would think lotr would have long credits, with godian knot you can set the end credits to use very low bitrate.
