I'm ripping a DVD for transfer to a VCD medium. When I preview it in DVD2AVI, it displays the Film Type as FILM, the aspect ratio as 16:9, which is all very clear. The problem I'm having is that it's displaying "progressive" AND "interlaced" in the Frame Type window. It flashes both words on the Statistics display window, almost as if some frames are progressive and some are interlaced. I can't tell what to put down in TMPGEnc for the video source type as a result.
Also, if I'm putting a film on VCD, do I want to perform inverse telecine or 3:2 pulldown on it and burn it as a 29.97 fps NTSC VCD?

I may be wrong but if the source is FILM and you check force film in DVD2AVI then it doesnt matter, you dont need to worrry about interlacing. One way to tell is to open the d2v in TMPG and goto settings/advanced/double click the deinverlace option. Scroll through a few sceens. If you see horizontal lines on the picture then you should use the deinterlace option. I always use double.
Hope this helps
