When i back up my DVD's i remove the macrovision in clad or smart ripper. Does anyone know if it is possible to remove macrovision from a downloaded file as there is no macrovision hack for my DVD player (Philips 710).
Thanks![]()

Not sure if I understand you correctly... but here it goes:
Macrovision on dvd's is only a trigger on the disc, meaning the player actually outputs the macrovision signal because the disc tells it to. If you're still getting a macroed signal from a disc with a file you downloaded well... I hate to tell you but it aint the file, or the disc, it's the player. Try to look for a hack or go out and buy a cheap player you can hack like APEX, SAMPO, MINTEK, MUSTEK, or any other Malaysian import. Alot of there players can be bought under a $100, some even under $60 -
Not entirely true.
The MV signal is still somehow in the file.
I have an SVCD with the MV signal (accidentally) left in it. On my Apex600 with disabled MV it plays flawlessy (Using the OFFA firmware). On my parents Philips 710 (coincident ?) It show the MV effects.
So indeed buying such a player would play the disc, but the file still has the MV signal in it. I also wonder wether there's an option to filter out the MV signal....There R 3 sides on every story;

but an mpeg file on it's own -can't- carry a MV signal! it's in the authouring, not the actual file, isn't it?? in any case, surely if you strip it from a program stream to an elementary stream it can't exist anymore.

I kind of understand what your saying about the file carrying the MV signal but being a bit of a dumb bird I got a bit lost after that!!. If I downloaded the file from a site such as Kazaa and the file is Mpeg, is there someway I can encode the file to another format and then back again in order to lose the MV?

Sorry, there is no macrovision in the file itself. the technology doesn't work that way. If you're seeing a macro color distortion its the player, or the source the file was digitized from (i.e. an analog tape copied from a macro encoded analog tape). From my understanding macrovision is an analog signal, that is why a dvd player has to send the signal itself through the AV outputs triggered by a command on the disc.

The Apex machines always send out a macro signal until you disable it, no matter what you play. I would go so far as to say most the players I've seen do this. Macro is an analog signal.
Yes it will show the MV effects but its not the file or the disc. If you understand the difference between Analog and Digital you will understand the point I'm trying to make here. The file itself is digital the MV effects are Analog. so it has to come from the player. If color distortion exists that just means it was digitized from an already macroed source. -
Yep I know... But the original writer (and me also) wondered how to remove that signal that activates the MV symptoms (Anolog / Digital / on disc) from an MPEG stream.
The stream itself must activate it otherwise it wouldn't be so that my Apex (w/o MV) plays it flawlessy and a Philips (w/ MV) doesn't.
It is something in the streamThere R 3 sides on every story;

Okay fine this is my last post, I'm done trying to point you in the right direction. If you want others to search in vain for an answer that doesn't exist that's your problem.
You hacked the APEX for macvrovision removal, not the disc or the file itself genius. You haven't hacked the PHILIPS. Get it yet smart guy? You are altering the machine not the items it plays.
No kidding the Apex plays it flawlessly any macrovision it outputs was turned off. Did you even read my last post? I said most dvd players will automatically send out an MV signal regardless of the disc thats in it. If I turn the MV on in my apex and play a home movie I burned I will still get a MV signal. Do you understand yet? Educate yourself before you post so that maybe the original poster can get a real answer and not be sent on a wild gooses chase by someone (i.e. YOU!) who hasn't a clue as to what they're talking about. MACROVISION IS ANALOG, how do you put an analog signal into a digital stream? the short answer is... YOU CAN'T.Think it through already.

Don't get too mad.... I'm not worth it.
I'm just a stupid guy, that doesn't understand anything untill it's spelled.
I believe you but I simply don't understand then.....
If this analogue signal is always send...then why don't I see it on the Philips with a VCD which I ripped and filtered the MV from ?
I have converted over a 100 movies with DVDDecrypter (and alike) and only this one (where I forgot the select "remove MV") gives the MV symptoms (dark/light & soundfading) ?
CaseyComb is in the opinion I'm in need for some education, Indeed I am but therefor my questions. Sadly he already posted his last message so maybe someone else is willing to help....and explain this basic knowledge to me.
If you think you're lightly-flameable too, please don't spend time on it, it's not worth to get furious.There R 3 sides on every story;

You don't have to flame the guy b/c he doesn't understand. I found the explanation a little confusing myself. Basically, if I get it correct, mv is being output by the player regardless of the disc. It has to be disabled on the player, end of story.
