  3. What connection speed are you on (i.e dial-up, cable etc)? The reason I ask is that you may be downloading from an FServ or XDCC where you are not meeting the minimum download speed required so the Bot/FServ boots you.

Also it may be having problems downloading if you are behind a firewall or proxy.

  5. There is essentially nothing wrong with a 56k modem for downloading if you are prepared to wait.

The problem arises when you go to download say a movie from a XDCC/FServ. Now the operater of it might have in place a minimum download speed you need to achieve otherwise it cancels your download. Basically they do this so as many people have access to the files as possible and are not held up by someone on like a 28k modem download a 800mb file at .96k/sec when someone on like a T3 connection is waiting and can download it at like 960k/sec.

The download minimum's werent all that common a few years ago but as more people move to broadband and files are getting bigger then their use has increased.

If you seriously want to download big files I would recommend at upgrading to cable/dsl as you are 99% likely to meet the download limit. As well it will cut the time (for an 800mb file) to download from like 30 hours to 3 or less.
