The ProShow slideshow program is a horror. Read below:

    ProShow CD problem.

ProShow does not play consistently on CD ROM drives.
The results of ten tests, on various computers & CD ROM drives, shows a serious problem with the software as it is ubiquitous.

CD Burner mfg or Computer mfg CD Rom (Read only) OS
    1. Plextor 16/10/40A "Played" "Failed" 98SE
    2. Compaq "Played" "Failed" 98SE
    3. DELL "Failed" "Failed" XP
    4. Dell No Burner "Played" 98SE
    5. HP "Failed" "Flailed" ME
    6. Dell No Burner "Failed" ME
    7. HP "Played"(1) No CD ROM 98SE
    8. EMachine No Burner "Failed" 98SE
    9. Compaq "Failed" "Failed" ME
    10. HP No Burner "Failed" 98SE

Mode of Play: VCD auto start and DVD capability

Failed means the program gets stuck at initialization.
Played means it started up satisfactorily
    (1) means computer froze during play back-towards the end.

This is a serious problem that needed to be addressed yesterday.

The only thing that could be wrong, at my end, is the software was corrupted during download, but I don't think so.

It is particularly bad with OS's XP and ME

I will bet your 14 slide shows had relatively small wav files, or were mp3's. However, I did find a fix to the problem. Convert to mp3 and then when the program copies to the HD, it takes much less time. My shows were 60 to 90 slides with music-all wav files. As soon as I converted to MP3 the problem disappeared.

  4. If you are speaking of VCD, I don't have problem with proshow!
It generates standard VCD mpeg1 and then I author with VCDimager and burn, with anything, the VCDs done like that should work on any proper player.. I don't see the point with your OS thing!!
If you're speaking of VCD, the OS is no value..
But maybe you're speaking of EXECUTABLE files proshow can produce, in that case, it's the wrong forum maybe (Here is VCD)

When I first used ProShow, it was a horror making VCD, or autoexe's. It was tested on 10 machines with terrible results. I needed to make 18 VCD and could no get it to stop continual initialization.

I finally switched to mp3 sound files and that solved the problem. The program copies the sound file and a 20 wav file is just too much for it.
Now, it is a good program because I discovered its idiosyncrasy. No problems now. But, just make a 90 pic slideshow, with wav sound, and you will see it is unreliable. It is a good program, with qualification. They will be putting out a new version soon, which should address this problem.
