  1. The vcr I was using to transfer vhs to dvd-r using the Pan DMR-E30 went kaput. Picked up JVC s-vhs recorder to replace it(only $79) and hooked it up to the DMR-E30 with s-cable just to see what it looked like. Can only get black and white picture. I'd heard this was a built in block to keep people from copying dvds with s-cable, but why does it do it also for analog tapes and cable tv.

  2. A bad S Video cable will also only show Black and white.

    sometimes you can fix the problem by wiggling the cable.

  3. When you want to use the S-video input, but only get black/white picture, that means the input is still in composite mode. In composite mode, it ignores the color input of the S-video.
