I see there are a few. This will be my first so I do not want to spend alot of time trying software. Which give the best results and less headache?

In the end they're all pretty much the same. But least headaches, I would go with Smartripper. You can preview the whole DVD, choose which chapters to rip, see all the streams, etc. etc.

Smartripperis deffinately the way to go. the program is straight forward, user friendly, and has good results. anyway you go about it, taking a source that is 4-8 gigs or so is gonna take some time no matter which program you use. it's all about the processor speed.

Smart Ripper is defenetly the right choice! however if you are unable to rip the DVD at all, then I would stongly recommand you get Sector Extractor v1.2, it may be manual compared to all the rest, but when it comes to ripping, it has not failed on me even once!
