  1. How can I send AVI file to my VCR through DV. I I'm using Sony TRV27, and I know how to set-up cables, but I don't know which software can send AVI (or other) video to firewire DV camcoder. I don't have TV-out, so instead I want to use camcoder to do the capturing from computer to VCR. Thanks in advance.

  2. I have tried this once with my Sony TRV-25 and it works. Essentially, you need to convert your avi file to a DV avi file. Once that you have done that, you can use a program such as DVIO (see the Tools section) to export the DV to your camcorder. If you hook up your RCA cables from your camcorder to your VCR, you can tape your DV file directly on to your VCR. If you prefer you can tape your DV file to a miniDV tape. Don't forget that "DV out" must be disabled in the camcorder's menu for this to work.

Given that TV out cards aren't that expensive, you may want to get one instead. It would simplify things.

  3. Thanks, I will try that tonight, when I tried to use DVIO to send Divx file to camcoder, it just crashed and nothing happened, so I hope when I'll convert it to DV avi it will work.

  4. I tried using DVIO to send an avi file to my DV camcorder thru firewire, but my camcorder does not respond even when DVIO is sending the file. My camcorder is a JVC GR-DVL120U. I went thru the options but there is no way to turn off DVout. Is there any other way to send the file to the camcorder?

  5. The Sony models have this option in the menu. It's different for your JVC. See page 39 of your manual (at the bottom of the page):
