Just finished watching Gladiator for the first time ---- done with DVD Decrypter -> DVD2One -> RecordNow Max. Single DVDR. I just can't get over how nice the quality is for such a lengthy movie! No pixelation or blocking of any kind. The guy (Erwin?) who machine-coded DVD2One should get the Medal of Honor for his efforts! :P

Movie burned to a Memorex DVD+R with a TDK Indeo4x DVD burner.

actually i heard it was assembly, not machine (hex) code. 90kb of machine code would be a hell of an accomplishment.

    mea culpa

your right --- someone who could read & write machine code would have no problem reading some Etruscan or Mayan texts!

still, assembly is no small achievement --- I wonder what Erwin used for the feat? I seem to remember from my old DOS days that MASM was quite popular...

those NASA guys have to write in hex, where memory is in such short supply. they'll say, "we got an extra 4KB memory available on this satellite, write us something that will do pattern recognitions." this stuff needs to be done in hex to absolutely conserve the most space. the guys who are good at that, however, are notorious for not knowing how to act around other human beings.

BTW: I just did Gladiator too, looks great

  5. Since we're off topic now...

I remember hearing a news story a couple years ago where a shuttle mission went up to upgrade the computer on a satellite. They took it from 1MB to 4MB of RAM.

When NASA was asked "Why so little?", they responded, "4MB is plenty. It doesn't have to run Windows."

  9. My guess is computer on satellites do not use the RAM as we know them today in PC. They must use the slower one and more permanent such as core memory or something like that. Please correct me if I am wrong. I use core memory before. 16KB (kilobytes) of core memory weight a few pounds.
But I like the joke anyway.

  10. I did the gladiator the other day and ran into a minor problem. No doubt the end result was great but here is the deal. Wide Screen version, I kept the AC3 5.1, DTS and enlgish subs. Endsize was 4.44gb. I had to run it through DVD2one again, and then it resized it to the 4.36gb. Did you run into this problem and which audio did you keep?
