i can do both svideo or standard rca into my avermedia card... will svideo really make a difference in the capture quality?
is this the reason i cant seem to get above 352 capture? i wanted to get the 720 dvd format

rca is a connector type, you mean composite ..
if you use s-video or composite .. will not effect your capture resulution on your system ... composite is not resolution dependent -
S-Video can give you cleaner signal to noise (in the VIDEO DOMAIN)
but as BJ_M points out has no effect on captured res...
However, keep your s-video cable short as it will actually pick up more noise than the composite cable over distance and is way more susceptible to interference from POWER LINES.
BTW..the SVIDEO connector contains the composite signal also so if your new device only had one input or output(S-VIDEO) you can always buy an adaptor to COMPOSITE from S-VIDEO and break the composite out of the multi-pin S-connector
