  1. Please help!
I have been converting movies to mpeg2 to burn to dvdr. I want them in 25fps pal, but usually download them as ntsc 23.976fps, so I change frame rate to 25fps as per King John's guide.
    The first couple worked fine.
    I download bin/cue file.
    Extract with vcd gear
    Run through dvd2avi.
Then thru vdub to get audio and video streams and to convert video to 25 fps.
I use headAC3he to change audio to wav, then cooledit to shorten wav to match video length.
When I load the video stream into tmpge, to convert to mpeg2 for burning with ulead dvd movie factory, it tries to judge field order then crashes. It will load the audio no problem.
I have spent hours trawling this site and others but still can't get it to work.
I believe that I have all the required codecs as I have been through KJ's sample files and can play them all.
Please help, the sleepless nights trying to sort this out are killing me!!!!!

King John, What am I doing wrong?????

So if you already did this before and it works, then you are doing it all ok, but there might be problems with the files you are working with.

If you download a Bin/Cue file and extract the .dat file you need to make sure that file is ok, since it is Mpeg 1, that is not as easy as .avi

If its a .dat file then it does not have AC3 it has 44.1khz uncompressed audio, so I don't know why you say you are using headAC3he ? that wont be used for mpeg 1

.dat files can be loaded straight into TMPGEnc for conversion to mpeg 2, you don't need to do anything with them, they have VCD headers, but TMPGEnc will load them (*.*) > .dat

So long as they have no faults, they will convert just fine...

  3. Thanx a lot for the reply.

In am a total newbie to all this really but am trying to learn fast although sometimes things have got very confusing.

I was running avi's through tmpge but kept getting a stutter on playback of the dvd's I burned.

This I discovered was due to the frame rate being 23.976 in the original.

I then started this conversion to 25fps.

The original problem for which I posted I actually resolved today by using fourcc changer to change the file to div4, then tmpge accepted it ok and I have converted it fine.

But your post now makes me think I am actually going about this all wrong and doing far more than I need to.

My next movie will be done your way, ie, vcdgear to extract .dat and then just load the .dat into tmpge, if I'm reading you right.
After all the procedures I have been going through, this does seem too easy. Will try it tomorrow and let you know.

    Thank you again
