  1. if anyone has tested the new 1.0g firmware please state if you have had any problems....but i am most interested in whether or not it can now read dvd-r movies or dvd5/9 retail movies at 4x instead of 2x...keep in mind, for those who don't know, it reads a data disc, or for example a playstation2 disc at 4x...however when you try to copy a disc containing .vob information, it goes at 2x (with 1.0f)....so any data would be appreciated...

i'm very happy with 1.0f, if there's no benefit to going to 1.0g i'll just stick with f

  2. i didn't have noticed any 1.0g problems, do mostly 2.4 +R's

what i want to mention though that it is very unlikely that we will see
this drive reading pressed DVD video disk with anything higher then 2x
speed ever. this is a Sony's way to answer movie piracy issues
supposedly, and not just sony, more new DVD burners start to do same thing with locking reading speed as far as DVD movies.
i hold my hopes for a hacked firmware one day

  3. -The 1.0g firmware reads DVD-R at 4x (4.2x I think was the highest it reached).

-Installed without a hitch (DMA disabled).

-Pressed DVD media still at 2x (2.1x max).

Burning speeds not affected as far as I can tell.

I upgraded two burners today. One was from firmware e; the other from firmware f. Both upgrades appear to be minimal at best. I had heard they were to address some complaints about not being able to use cheap media...

No problems though, if you follow the instructions.....

  6. Try to read DVD-ROM. Not DVD-R, DVD+R or Commercial DVD Video.

  7. it was already reading regular dvd-roms at 4x, doubt it's any faster now
