DVD crashes computer

Hi all,

Well after I finally was able to get a dvd to vcd format and play it, Now when I use my DVD or my CDRW drive it freezes up my computer at times?

Any clues on this at all? All I can think of is to reinstall me on my pc?
though about just removing the devices then restart and have me reinstall just the 2 drives?

Also is there a way to rip only certain vob files. I have a dvd i bough and when I try to rip it, I get out of memory error, and I know that I have way more memory,hard drive space for this? There are like 7 vob files, and teh one I need is the 1st vob file.
