  1. I have VFAPIConvEN version 1.05 installed on my two computers as well as VirtualDub 1.4.13.

On my Win2000 computer when I open VFAPIConvEN I am given the option to open Tmpgenc , DVD2AVI and VirtualDub projects. On my WinXP it only lists Tmpgenc & DVD2AVI and NO VirtualDub.

I ran the Auxsetup for VirtualDub on both computers and vifpset.bat for VFAPIConvEN.

How can I get VFAPIConvEN to recognize VirtualDub projects on my WinXP computer ?

    Cheers

    Kenmo

You can always either type in the file name explicitly, or just type *.* and hit [return]. You will see an entire list of available files, regardless of what is registered. It sounds like the aux setup for VDub didn't go like it was supposed to.

You did select the 'Install Handler' button in the AuxSetup for VirtualDub?

  5. If you're trying to use it with CCE, when you are setting up the VirtualDub frameserve, just add ".avi" to the filename e.g. "movie.vdr.avi". You should now be able to open it up directly in CCE. It worked for me anyway.

kenmo, not to badger the point, but it's a common mistake. Someone will simply run the auxsetup.exe, without actually clicking the 'Install Handler' button. I wanted to verify that you did indeed click the button after you ran auxsetup.exe.

You're not badgering me and YES I did run the "Install Handler" button as well as the "Benchmark". I've been using VirtualDub for close to 2 years and I've isntalled the frameserving many a times....Ialready have it working on my 'other' computer.

Any suggestions on how to make this work ?

banjazzer was helping someone with a simular problem. Perhaps this will be useful?
There's a dll you need to put in your Windows/system32 folder. msvcr70.dll if I recall correctly.

Oh, I see you've done that. As KingJohn will tell you, I don't read the post until after I've answered it. After adding the dll, I had to play around with the VFAPI plugin priorities to get it to work. It may have been the Direct show multimedia filereader, I can't quite recall, but I did post in the forums about it when I finally got it to work.

And here's the reference to the topic: http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=94430&highlight=frameserver
I didn't notice the .VDR error you said your getting. What is the specific error? It may help to narrow the search. Are you using subtitles?

  10. Please see the attached image. This occurs when I open a Vdub .vdr file in VFAPI on my Windows XP computer (Athlon 900). It does NOT happen on my Windows2000 Sp3 computer (Athlon XP 1800).

    Any ideas ???

Then the .vdr file will NOT open in VFAPI !

I don't use VFAPI, so I may be way off here, but this almost looks like something resulting from a codec problem. Someone with more experience with VFAPI may be able to help.

Use GSPOT in the tools section, to verify that you have all of the necessary audio and video codecs to properly decode the file (note: just because it can be played back does not indicate you have all of the necessary codecs). It should report both the audio encoding, and the video encoding, and whether or not the necessary decode codecs are installed.

Let me know what results you get...

If I remember correctly, there was a readme.txt somewhere that stated that Vfapi should be installed in the same folder as the frameserver app. I'm not sure if it's just a .dll, but just copy the whole Vfapi into Vdub, and give it a try..........
