Hi hockey2112,
The reason I burn the image is becuase I want a copy of it on my hard drive. I have a very large hard drive and I want to save all my games on there. Thats the reason. You could also do it 1:1 copy and it'll work.
As for those instructuctions on how to patch a game I'm not really sure becuase I havent done one my self so I wouldn't be able to tell you if it'll work. All I know about "ripped" games is that you need a patch in order for it to work. Try Mod Chip Forums. They pretty much have a whole section on "rips".

OK, I'll ask around on there. I might try the method I posted above sometime this weekend, and I will post the results.
That's a good idea about keeping a copy of the image. I might do the same.
BTW, I ordered my fliptop from www.ps2fliptop.com . I paid for 3-day shipping. Some guy from the company wrote me and said that they are going to send it next-day instead, for free. So that is pretty cool. -
hockey,
i dont usually keep backups of my ps2 cd or dvd games on my harddrive, but i do create image files on my harddrive & then burn the image file to a dvd-r or cd-r.. the reason for this is because if you are doing an "on-the-fly" copy of a game from you dvd-rom to your dvd burner and there is some kind of read error reading the original disc in your dvd-rom, your dvd-r will be ruined.. i usually dont get read errors, but it is more of a peace of mind thing.. and good dvd-r media is expensive.. 5 extra minutes of my time is worth it.. an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.. (i think thats how it goes). -
Hey guys. I think there's an easier way to burn dvd and cd based ps2 games that using cdrwin and all that other crap. just use recordnow max 4.5 if you have it.
For dvd based games just go to Drive/Build Global Image, then at the bottom left choose your destination for the gi file, then simply click the Build button towards the bottom right, when that is done close that window, then click the Image button at the top of the main window, click Add File and find the gi file you copied to the hard drive, choose your speed (slower is better, yet i've burned on MAX and never had problems), then choose 'Record and Verify', then 'Verify every round'. Then just click the red circle near the top-middle. That's it!! This method is very quick and easy! I've never had any problems, all good burns!!!
For cd based:
open Recordnow max, click 'Wizard', then click 'Make an exact copy', put in the original ps2 cd based game, wait for done copying, insert blank
cd-r, click next, wait for done burning and that's it!!! I've had no problems w/ this method either.
Sorry for long post and if you already knew this method, but for anyone that didnt, hope this helps!!
