Hope this one is another stupid oversight on my part.
I capture all my video from digital cable TV and usualy have no problem assempling the correct filters required to correctly convert clips. But, there seems to be 1 or 2 channels that deliver their signal in a way that very much test my abilities!!!
I have placed 2 sample clips (about 600kbs each) at the following webpage http://mywebpages.comcast.net/mig317/help.htm. I would like to encode these to 480x360 (which is my normal final resolution) or larger. If you could enlighten me with a successful filter combination I would be very greatful.
My ntsc clips are captured via the compostite inputs of my WinTV-FM. I capture @ 720x480 using the Huffyuv_2.1.1 codec.
*Note - The clips at the link above are RAW except for the fact that they have been re-encoded using DivX_4.12 only to reduce filesize.
Best Regards,
Golem

It might help if you actually posted a problem. Interesting reading, but we can't give you an answer if you don't ask a question...
These appear to be true interlaced material. You should just encode them as source: interlaced, output: inerlaced.Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything... -
Well, guess I should have said "interlace problem".
I have tried using four different deinterlacing filters and a telecine filter, alone, and in different combinations. For some reason I can not seem to find the right settings for these clips. Playback on a PC media player is intended.

That's a bit better. If you have to deinterlace a true interlaced source for PC display, you can try frame doubling, or you can simply reduce the vertical resolution by two. There is a built in filter in virtualdub that will do this.
There are alot of good de-interlacing filters for VirtualDub. Search the forum for 'dgraft' to get you started.

My favorite resolution!! Not anymore, here's why. Not a multiple of 16 try 512x384 instead.
I use (in order) Deinterlace/Smart Resize(bicubic)/2d Noise Reduction. Sometime I use noise reduction and/or temporeal softener depending on the channel properties. To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
Followup. Certain TV channels will jsut suck. Ones that fall on a multiple of you PCI or Memory bus frequency. ALos, no 2 TV channels have there video settings quite the same. I spent 6 years as a Cable TV engineer, I have some experience here. Also, certain scrambled channels can give capture cards fits, due to the sync supression.
