  1. I just backed up "The World Is Not Enough" Zone2 (so PAL) and when I watched it on my TV, The ratio was Wrong. So I said ok no prob I loaded up Ifoedit and changed it. What a surprise when I loaded up the new IFO.
here is the info of my new IFO:
    MPEG1 - NTSC - 4:3

I loaded up the Original IFO here it is:

    MPEG2 - PAL - 16:9 - LETTERBOX

All that to say CHECK YOUR IFO before BURNING or you might have a bad surprise!!! Lucky for me I used a DVD-RW to burn it first since it was for a quality test. And when putting Subs, they are almost unreadable even on a 16:9 TV cause they are at the very bottom.

    You have been warned.

  2. Didn't think to check that forum for this, but since it is not fixed newbies should know.

ps: For those interested, it is more the PAL becoming NTSC that has to be changed since the aspect ratio is encoded in the movie if you change it it in the ifo it won't change a thing

    Huh???
Yes it will. If you change the aspect ratio in the IFO it WILL change when you play it... I have several on DVDr that I forgot to change when using spruceup. 16*9 at a 4*3 ratio gives the sqeezed head look.
You DO have to change it in BOTH the VIdeo_Ts AND the movie VTS IFO's though.

  4. I am not too sure it is just DVD2ONE because of all the films I have done TWINE has given me the most problems.

If you run DVD2AVI over the VOBS and use bitrate viewer you will notice it changes from 4:3 progressive to 16:9 depending on which VOB you view. It is a weird one...

It is meant to be 16:9 (letterboxed) though.

  5. Is this a Region 2 problem? I've done 16 Region 1 DVDs with DVD2one so far, including the World Is Not Enough, and have not experienced this problem... I just checked all of them in IFOEdit...

Some DVD's are encoded with the black bars in the frame. Stargate is an example. It plays on your DVD as a 2:35 movie, but if you look at the ifo with Ifoedit it is 4:3! If you look at it in PowerDVD it plays with the black bars, other lettereboxed movies will play without the black bars. Not all DVD's are encoded the way you might think.

just a thought on this thing with changing pal to ntsc and 4:3 to 16:9.
All my backups have so far worked, but now checking them out with IFOEdit.95 shows that indeed there has been some changes but only in the VIDEO MANAGER MENU ATTRIBUTES,was pal now ntsc and was 16:9 now is 4:3,and mpeg 1, but since there is no longer any menu it don't matter.TITLE SET (MOVIE) ATTRIBUTES WERE OK,16:9,pal and 25fps.So DVD2one must just default the menu attributes to 4:3 and ntsc in the transcode process, this should be sorted out when newer versions of DVD2one come out that include menus(hopefully)......spaceman

A test I did with Blade II gave me wrong aspect ratio, the 16:9 is streched to 4:3 deforming original picture. I was expecting a 4:3 Pan&scan...

I guess I need to see again what is wrong but looking at .IFO I think I see 16:9 everywhere.
As mentioned before, menu info is irrelevant... Or it isn't so?

It depends, some Standalone DVD players will take what says the Menu Information to play the movie so it is best to change everything back to the original settings.

No problem with The World is Not Enough here --- DVD2One did a great job on it. Might be a "Region 2" issue, as a previous poster opined? Or maybe it is just player-specific, as another poster said...
