Help with slow - freezing dvd-r

I have just got the rip of THE OTHERS dvd, and have burnt it at 1X.
For some reason when playing it back on my pioneer dvd-525 (playes everything i chucj at it), after 20 seconds all counters stop (time played, time remaining etc). If i let the disc play through, its fine. however, if i skip to another chapter, it will play approx 5 seconds of that chapter, then for 3 seconds will play stuttering (slow down) and then just freeze.

Any idea why this may be?

I've had exactly the same problem with the R1 Edition of "Nightmare on Elm Street" and the R4 edition of "Evil Dead" with the Pioneer 525 player.
I've tested the DVDr in several other players and it played fine so I can only conclude that there is a compatibility issue with the player.

I used smart ripper to the rip the video and audio seperately and remuxed them into vobs using infoedit. I'm going to experiment with other rippers and see if I can get more satisfactory results. I'll keep you updated on any progress
