  3. soundforge is excellent - but two others you might look into are goldwave and cooledit (none are free, but goldwave is shareware).

In terms of freeware - you might want to have a look at audacity, which I haven't used, but I think it's quite good.

have a look around this site for other free audio tools.

    cheers,

    mcdruid.

Digidesign (http://www.digidesign.com) has a downloadable XtraLite version of their famous ProTools software, called ProTools Free. And guess how much it costs?...

    Things to note:
*Has both PC and MAC versions.
*PC works only w/ 98,SE, or ME. Sorry, no NT/2k/XP.
*Mac works only w/ OS9. Not sure about Classic compatibility w/in OSX.

Requirements are a little stiffer than many other freeware/shareware apps. Probably from its inheritance of functions from its bigger professional brother. 96/128 MB RAM minimum. PC version is alittle picky concerning compatibility with certain CPU/MOBO and Sound Card combos.

Other negs: A little slow to load up, and works with DualMono files-not Stereo-will make converted copy.I.E. more HD space needed.

Positives: One of the best, if not THE BEST, editing interfaces. A number of very good FX features, including TimeCompression/Expansion. A VERY HIGH Quality Sample rate converter. 8 tracks of audio (4 if you use stereo tracks), more of MIDI, Most anything automatable and groupable.
It operates almost identically to its older brothers. And...
    It's FREE!
