  1. I have several .dat files that were extracted from a .bin and .cue file. I tried to convert them to mpeg but with no success. I keep getting a no audio message on my Sony NS715P player. Any suggestions? I burned the original .bin and .cue file to a CD and the that is where the .dat file came in to play.

  2. What i normaly do is just change the .dat to .avi and play it with mediplayer or winamp with correct codec

  3. hi,

check out VCDEasy. the dat->mpeg utility bundled in the
program is the greatest one I've tested. You get back every
    single byte!

Renaming .dat to .avi may work, but a VCD .dat file sure aint no .avi - it's an mpeg file. The difference are some header info. In addition to VCDEasy, VCDGear can "convert" .dat to .mpg

  5. hi,

yes, vcdgear can do it too. BUT and this is a big *BUT*...
vcdgear will not give you back the same bytes as the
original mpeg file. that is a matter of fact. I've tried it
with many different mpegs and vcdgear will fail. on the
other had, vcdeasy works FAULTLESS. what a work of
    art

Rename the .dat to .mpg. Then use TMPG's mpeg tools to multiplex (Type MPEG-1 Video-CD), and output with a new name. Burn this to VCD with something like Nero.
