check your hard drive partition where the captures are going--if its fat32 you will either have to make sequential captures or switch to the NTFS file system. I did that and haven't looked back.

Also make sure that you have DVIO set to use type-2 DV files. Right click the title bar and set file AVI format to type-2.

  4. thanks you for your suggestions.

I tried capturing it as Type 2, but the problem is that the resulting AVI file is not recognized by tmpgenc.

That's not true, I do it all the time.

Do you have the proper codecs installed?

  7. Also, what is the difference between Type 1 and Type 2. I am assuming Type 2 is a later version.

Do u know what the pro's are for Type 2

Type-1 simply encasulates the DV video and audio streams. For this reason, some programs can't handle the audio independantly (VirtualDub for example). Type-2 added a separate audio stream (which actually duplicates the DV audio stream, which is also why type-2 produces larger files for the same capture).

  9. Thanks, that was helpful.

Apparantly, Windows Movie Maker uses a different algorithm to create an AVI file. where can I find a codec to use with tmgenc?
