  2. only if you have the FAT32 file system. Use NTFS and these limits worries go away like the wind

  4. Just before I bought my Pioneer A05 I formatted and reinstalled XP using the NTFS file system, and I haven't had any problems with it. In fact, I like NTFS better than I ever did FAT32.

The 4 gig file size limit applies to any drive that does not use the NTFS file system, including any drive where your captures reside for a short time in temp files. That leaves out 95, 98, and ME, and restricts you to XP, Win2000, or WinNT (or Linux).

You can always use a multi-boot setup, with multiple disks/partitions, to allow you have more than one OS installed, with different file systems on different partitions/disks. This is more complicated - surf the net for more info on how to do it.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

I guess only brain surgeons and rocket scientists try to install win9x systems on a NTFS formated partition. I gotta go back to school and learn how to do that myself

I knew that I'd hate leaving win98 for Microslops XP, but its the
only way(at this time) for large captures.

    XP-what a bloated turd!

  9. Try vurtualdub with segmented enabled. It captures and automatically cuts the capture into 2 gb segments. works great for me!!

  10. When you need to burn DVD, chances are you will need file larger than 4GB. Go with NTFS, it has always been working.
However, when formatting a drive (or a partition) as NTFS you will lose the content of that drive.
This is only a one time deal.

if you don't like winXP then use w2k (or isn't that available no more?).

I capture in w2k. All my drives are in NTFS and because I'm capping DV (3.5MB/sec!!) a file of 22GB (avi) is very common at my system.
If I ever would try to do so in winME, I possible would have thrown my system out of the window a long time ago!

  12. You can use fat32 sys for capture w/iuvcr. You can set your max file size to a little less that 4g and it will capture 50g or any amount you want, (hard drive space permitting, of course) in segments of the size you set it for. Then you can use Ulead Studio 6 to combine these files into one movie as long as you keep the final product under 4070mb (4g) by adjusting your sound and vidio bitrate. You will not be able to detect where the segments start and end. Or of course use XP or 2000 w/ntfs.
