  1. Installed RecordNow that came with my Sony DRU-500A about 3 weeks ago and only have it worked twice!

    I'm running Windows 2000 Pro with MSI board with latest VIA chipset drivers, XP 2000 and 512MB DDR. Not many softwares installed that I can think of would create conflicts. SmartRippers, TMPGEnc, DVD2AVI, Norton System Works (tried disable it, no luck), Office 2000, Power DVD and stuffs that came with DRU-500A. Every time I launch RecordNow or DX they will freeze 9 out of 10 times. Sometimes right at the beginning, sometimes further down the road. The only times it didn't freeze are the times it worked and I was able to burn my VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders with perfect DVDs that works on all my players and DVD drives. And it will freezed after it finished burning and I click DONE.

    Sent email to Veritas tech support and got no reply. Anybody has similar problems and know how to fix it? I have the 1.0f firmware installed, do I need to install the previous ones like c & d?

  2. Try this;

    Open up your device manager and look for your ide channels that your burners are on. Select the channel your burners are on and click properties. Go to advanced options and look for your burners device number "0 or 1". You will see a "Transfer Mode". If it is "DMA" select "PIO Only". Click "OK"

    Now restart or logoff the computor and try it again.

  3. Thanks. I thought that might be the problem, but I never tried it. Actually, Veritas site recommend DMA but Sony DRU-500A site under Windows 2000 says PIO. Anyway, I installed RecordNow Max and it seems working, at least for now. If Max freezes again then I'll try switching to PIO.

    Thanks again.

  4. twen

    I used RecordNow Max for a long time but was ending up with a lot of "not so good discs". I was having problems mostly at the end of movies. RecordNow Max also would do the "I'm going on break now" thing. I switched all my burners over to "PIO" and haven't had a bad disc yet.

    I don't use RecordNow Max anymore since Nero has worked out most of the bugs.

    The way I understand it is using DMA is like having a middle man between the Program and the burner. PIO is direct and utilizes the CPU.

    Good Luck
