I have been trying to convert some rips for about a month a go I have downloaded every program and have not been able to get it to work once. Hopefully someone can help.
1. I have an avi file which is 733mb big
2. I extract the audio using virtual dub, I select full processing mode, no compression and at 44100. The file produced when I save the wav is just over 1gb.
3. I then go into panasonic mpeg encoder load up the video file and the audio file. It works fine and creates about a 100mb file (about seven minutes of the film) and then it crashes saying that there is a problem with the size.
What I think must be the problem is that the wav file is 300mb bigger than the video file. How can virtual dub create a file that is larger than the original. Please help me out, cause as I say I am going mental.

Your 733Mb file has compressed audio, probably MP3. When you extract it in vdub with no compression then its going to be "uncompressed" and 2/3 times the size of the original.
You don't say if you made the AVI, if you did not then it could have bad frames which need to be removed before you do anything.

I did not make the file. What do exaxtly do you mean by bad frames ?, I downloaded it from the net. I have watched the file on my pc and it is fine.

Read the guide on bad frames, just because it plays, does not mean there are no faults.
