    Well,

Just burned a DVD/RW with my captured files and it worked
I just tried the UDF 1.02 DVDrom settings in nero.
unknowingly i recorded over a copy of TIME MACHINE that i had backed up previously. (using DVDxcopy)
I just dragged the files over and hit burn BINGO ! chucked it in the set top
and wow it worked straight up.
it was only a short videoclip (about 5 mins) just a test file.
when i asked nero to burn it did the "would you like to erase contents"
of course just said yes and away it went. I did notice however that the face of the disk didnt appear any different so i am assuming that it just writes over the info already there.
I thought this had solved all of my problems.
    DUH !! NO !!!!
i then unwrapped a brand new RW disk popped it in the drive and asked it to burn again. This it did without a hassle. again chucked it in the set top player and..................."NO DISC" error

Do you need to format a DVD/RW disc is any special way before writing the VIDEO_TS folder to the disc ?

Would it be that the backup procedure created files that have been retained on the disc even after overwriting with another file ?

It just seem that something is missing !

    Thanx

Well this is just driving me nuts !
i took the disc that had the backup on it (done with dvdxcopy)
which i had successfully burned over with home video files which worked in the set top player

I then authoured some more home vid and wacked it over the top yet again and this disc continues to work
take the same files and burn them to a newly formatted DVD/RW
and "no disc" error in set top

i really dont want to have to format my RW's by backing up an original DVD each time i want to create a new disc.
is there some special way of formatting these discs ?

ive tried both full format and quick format in NERO and PRASSI DVD

    Cmon guys any suggestions.

Mutisession is not an option in nero UDF1.02 and as default it finalises the disc

prassi primoDVD only has option for NEW VOLUME or load track 1 through 10 in multisession options

instant cd/dvd just wizards it all the way

Just noticed that after instaling instant cd/dvd that you can format the disc via the drive properties
this give an option for format using
    UDF 1.50
    UDF 2.0
    UDF 2.01

nothing on 1.02 (supposedly most compliant)

What is the recommend setting for formatting the disc ?
i assumed that "formatting the disk was just doing a "full erase"
    maybe this is my problem

    NERO SUCKS just my opinion

I have fought compatibility issues with NERO and other burning software programs for month until a couple of weeks ago my copy of primo would not recognize my HP 200i. The luckiest thing that has happened to me in a while. Searching some recording posts I came across a few on Stomp Record Now Max. I thought I would give it a try and low and behold what a great program. I have done over 25 projects with it now with out a glitch When I was using NERO and others, I held my breath to see if I made an expensive coaster or not. Also Primo was better but still had some erase and recognition problems with RW, when I made the purchase after only 1 day of the 30 day free trial, I found I was eligible for an update discount because or software I already owned came out to be under $25.00 US.
    Just my 2 cents
    NOTE:
HP 200i x2ea and DVR-105 x2ea this program also erased discs I was going to throw out because I could not find a way to erase and reuse after only a few burns.
A couple of my stand alone Panasonic's are real picky!

Well perseverance pays off i suppose !

Thanx to "ALL" of the multitudes of people who posted replies !
(i suppose that means me ) LOL

and a sincere thanx to the ones who really did try to help.

But after much soul searching (and a bit of surfing on the net)

I have finaly solved the problem ..................
ok ok ok ok (my wife actualy pointed me to the site with the info
    Shhhhhhhhhhh dont tell anyone)

The site that helped was highvid.com (there are some helpful instructions straight off the main page)

I have now successfully put my home video onto DVD !
it seems that the placement of the VIDEO_TS folder on the disc can be
    crucial to some standalone players.
by leaving the audio_ts folder off that solves that one !
also some tweaks and settings shown in the "folders to DVD via VOB instant cd/dvd" tutorial were very helpful.

Well now that the burner is humming away and the dvd player says "ROOT" and not "no disc" i think ill take the first option every time
    *grin*

hope this helps someone else out there
regards to all and happy DVD-ing
