  1. Does anyone here know how to cut a SVCD file after I have ran it through I-Author.

I encoded my SVCD file using TMPEnc. I then had a file of over 1.2 gig in size. This I then demuxed using the mpeg tools into a sound file and a video file. I then ripped the subtites using subrip, then using the multiplexing part of I-Author, I merged all three files together.

I want to setup a menu and chapters using I-Author (or TSCV), but I now dont know howto split this file so I can burn the final files onto two discs? I-Author has given me a file with an .mps extension.

Can anyone tell me how I can split this file and also if the resultant two files can then be reloaded back into I-Author's menu creation part.

    Thanks in advance

I think your stuck. I've never found anything that can cut an .mps file. As far as I can tell the only way to create subtitles like you want is to author each disk separately. There are a couple of different ways to do it, none of them are very fun.

1: Cut your mpg into its parts, lets say into 2 parts. When you create I-Author subs you should have a whole bunch of .bmp files and one txt file that lists the playtimes of each .bmp. Well watch the 1st disk and see what the last line is. Now find the .bmp file that corresponds to that line. In the txt file find that .bmp # and delete everything after that and save it as "disk1" or something. Use this as the subs file on disk 1 in the I-Author multiplexor and it should be perfect, of course different languages require fine tuning of the start time delay.

Now go back into your original tx file and find that line at the end of disk 1. This time delete everything above it including that line. This leaves you with all the reference points for disk 2, but the times are off. So what you need to do is take the total time of disk 1 and subtract it from every single time you have left. So say disk 2's first line starts at 1:05 in the actual movie, well now it will be 0:00, and everything after that will be adjusted accordingly.

2: An easier yet more restricting method is to encode your vobs in groups so that your disks will be split between vobs. So you just rip your subs in groups and dont have to worry about editing the txt file. Unfortunately this leaves you little choice as to where your cut points are.

3: The best method in my opinion is to rip your dvd into chapters using smartripper. Now put your chapters into groups according to which disk you want them on and you will be able to rip the subs just for those chapters.

If all your doing is a single sub stream editing the txt might be best. If you want 4 subs ripping by chapter eliminates alot of headaches.

  3. Thanks very much for your detailed reply.

I will review these different options and have another go at reencoding I think. It sounds easier, especially as reading in these forums splitting an MPEG2 stream never seems to work very successfully with the audio going out of synch.

    Cheers
