  5. Ok, what resolution and fps are you trying to capture at? Do you have DMA enabled for your HD? Have you tried capture at say 352x240/15fps to see what happens? If you're still dropping frames at that low setting something is wrong with your setup/system.

Also turn off ALL background apps. Esp virus scanning software! Or auto-defragmentors. While it at it, defrag your HD too

  7. have you looked at an IDE RAID card for your hard drives, it will let you stripe up to four drives makeing all four drives work together and increasing hard drive speed. It does matter how fast your CPU is or how much memory you have.

  8. I have a 1.2 thunderbird I get no frame drops if I use the following settings, use Virtualdub for capturing and set at the following to see what happens

    BTYUV AVI
    29.97 frames
    22050 16 bit stereo audio

with this setting I have captured up to 3.8 gigs with about 30 frame drops over the entire 3.8 gigs.
I usually get 1 frame drop out of every 1200 frames on the average.

Mario yes CPU speed dose to help but you rigth IDE RAID is need to increasing the thougth put for a higher resolution.
Mdanner423 you know it my be eazy to just buy a Real-Time MPEG1,2 Hardware Encode like a Dazzle DVC II $300 or Hauppauge WinTV-PVR $250 for less money.
