  1. hi, i have this 200mb mpeg-1 file from a sports highlight basketball season. what i would like to do is display a jpeg picture for 5 seconds before the vcd plays (on a computer, not using a stand-alone dvd player). is there a way to do this with a program like nero or tmpgenc? thank you.

  2. Step 1 -- ditch Nero.

Step 2 -- just create a simple still menu with VCDEasy... You will need to convert the JPEG file to a high resolution MPEG still image (with MJPEGTools / VCDEasy).

  3. ok, i downloaded vcdeasy and tried it out. it works fine, but is there a way to output the file to an mpg1 instead of burning it onto a cd?

  4. You can set VCDEasy to:
    1. only create the XML descriptor file
    2. proceed on to create the CUE/BIN image of the S/VCD
    3. proceed on to burn said image onto a disc.

It is time to give up on Nero. Nero's menus are a poor poor effort.

You can burn CUE/BIN images with CDRDAO, CDRWin, BlindWrite and even Nero. However, burning CUE/BIN images with Nero is not recommended.

If Nero is the ONLY CD burning proggy that works on your computer, then I suggest the following.

With VCDEasy, only create the XML descriptor file of the putative S/VCD.

Download and install GNU VCDImager Tools GUI: http://www.michaeltam.coma/vcdimager_tools_gui.html

    Use the lkVCDxBUILD Tool.

Load the XML file. Set the image option to the NRG setting (Nero's proprietary image format).

    Set your output file.

lkVCDxBUILD will then create an NERO image of the S/VCD. This should burn in Nero perfectly. This option is preferable to having Nero burn CUE/BIN images as it is still somewhat dodgey at doing so.

If I can add my two cents:

Use Gold Wave to Open an audio file, make it last for five seconds, and save it.

Open TMPGEnc, load your jpeg file as video input, and your audio file as audio input, name the output file name and press Start. The resultant file should be a mpeg file that shows your jpeg image for five seconds.

You then use the Merge & Cut tools in TMPGEnc to join this mpeg file to your season's video.

  6. Use the freeware program named Slide Show Movie Maker. It will take a bunch of pictures and convert them to an avi which can then be encoded to a mpeg1 or 2 file.

    It's freee and very good.

    Description (from website)

Slide Show Movie Maker is a free program that's used to create an .avi file from a series of .bmp or .jpg images. Images can have professional-looking fade-in and fade-out effects, plus attractive text overlays. The program's clean-looking interface is logically laid out; you should become productive within just a few minutes of running it. Keep in mind that .avi files can become quite large and take a long time to render. However, Slide Show Maker lets you choose to save output using any one of your system's installed .avi codecs, so the file size and generation time will vary depending upon which one you choose.

NOTE: This should be added to the tools section here !
