I just converted a series of VCD mpegs to DVD compliant mpegs following the instructions on vcdhelp.com. I do not have ulead movie factory and I was wondering can i not author it and just go straight to burning it with nero? If I can, and it will work on my dvd player, what setting do i use?

Nero do not support any dvd authoring.
