just got a dvd player that plays vcd some of my vcd's work fine but others come up as cd's but work fine on the pc i have sussed out that the working one's have been recorded as vcd and the none working one's as cd the files seem the the same but because the dvd is looking for vcd and gets cd it won't work.
The solution might be simple but iv'e already wasted about 10 cd's trying to make 1 that work's i'm pleading for help.

If you burn a .mpg as data CD, it is playable on PC only.
You can only copy the .mpg to HD and burn again as VCD. -
using nero
vcd has been copied by a m8 butid shows up as a cd.
if i explore it looks the same as another vcd i have exepet that comes up as a cd in my stand alone Dvd player
Both cd's work fine in my pc .What i need help in is the fact that some idiot saved one as a cd instead of vcd so i works it work on a pc and all the files seem to be there but it wont play on my vcd player as its told its a cd instead of a vcd.
Still dont know what im talking about but hope this will give someone the info to sort me out -
Sounds like your M8 done a file copy then ?
Ummm..
You could use VCDGear and convert the dat file back to a VCD mpeg. Then use Nero to make a "real" VCD with that Mpeg.
VCDGear only takes a little while to convert it back, dont think Nero will take the dat file ?? -
You shouldn't even have to do that. Just put the .DAT files into the playlist, instead of a MPG, and Nero shouldn't care at all. You still have to author it as a VCD and all, but I've made discs like that before, and have worked.

used vcdgear to convert .dat to . mpg then nero to burn vcd player tried to play it but picture was dead sound was ok will now have a go at using the .dat file in nero and see what happens.
Thanks to you all for the input it all helps in teaching me this new field -
Well what can i say nero didnt work so i tried adaptec using the file i made using vcdgear .mpg very slow but it works.
Must now find out why nero dont because i use nero every day for music so i know it works.
But thats another story i have converted my first vcd so i feel very happy England won again so i feel very very very happy so i will just use the slow way that works sort rest out later.
(sounds a bit like Sven having a team talk)
Thanks again chaps couldnt have done it without you -
What you had a problem with Nero, How strange
Anyway, main thing is job done....
I use Easy Cd Creator for everything.

I actually PAID for EZ CD creator 3.0 Deluxe suite. The only part I ever use is the Spin Doctor (cd ripping proggie) and only then if I for some reason need to record tracks out of order (to get rid of annoying 2 second intros between tracks). I just don't care for the program, and it's getting worse with every new version.

What exactly is getting worse, Yes it wont let you make non compliant VCD's, Yes it wont let you over burn. But what it does do it does it very well. I guess you need V5, older versions may give problems with new technology.
I got my first free with the writer, V1.3 I think along with an Adaptec Scsi card, Not used anything else in years. -
