I just want to update my post My friend that has the Sony DRU500A does not burn the cheep media like the pioneer as well my friend never burn the hole DVD-R only half way be burner's DVD's once in a blue moon the cheep DVD-R's seem to be oh ok for about 3gig's I would say. As for burning cheep media the Sone DRU500A and the Pioneer A04 are the same in burning cheep media i'm not saying that cheep media ia bad i'm just saying from the blank DISC we have they suck from Meritline these Dsic where bought when the Sone DRU500A came out.

I never have trouble burning cheap dvd-r media and I have an a04 original firmware 1.2.. trouble is with the cheap media some player won't play it correctly but it will play in the dvd rom drive fine..right now Iam very happy with ritek gold and purple that I got before from meritline, they don't sell it anymore. My all my dvd player plays it with no problem.
just my .02 cents -
posted in media section regarding to meritline media... i'm not satisfied with their media and service so switched to dvd-r.safewebshop.com for Universal media... and I do agree with DRU-500 being a better drive that accepts more media.

Hi
I have a pioneer A05 and had no problems so far with media. I brought it just before christmas, it has the original firmware and so far i have burned traxdata dvdr ,datasafe dvdrw and dvdr and bulkpak 2x generation 4 dvdr. Maybe in the future i may come across media i won't copy on but i don't fancy flashing it in case it dies on me. -
Did another test I was at my friend's house he has the DRU500A we ripped iwth Smartripper and encoded with DVD2ONE the movie was K-19 the cheep media he has is from Metitline it locked up at 99% DVD still played fine in the PS2 only thing some of the credit's are not there. I went home and use smartripper and DVD2ONE on 007 the WORLD is Not Enough burned it locked up at 97% you do not get to see the end of the movie so cheep media is better on the Sony but cheep is still not great good for renting from netflick's the only thing can cheep media break your burner is it lock's up again and again?
