  1. Hello to everyone! I'm new here. I recently encountered some problems when I've tried to make a VCD. I got the video file from an FTP. It was around 850 MB, in WMV format. From what I read on this site, I renamed it in ASF format, and divided it into 3 smaller parts(each of which were about 250 MB in size), using ASF Tools. After this, I wanted to convert it to MPEG, using TMPGEnc, but when I started the conversion of just one of the parts, TMPGEnc predicted that it would take about 90 hours to complete. Anyways, I left it overnight, and in the morning, there was only about 8% of the file done, which is unusual, since I can usually convert a file twice the size, in AVI format, not ASF, in one night. If there's anyone that can tell me why this is happening, what I should do, anything, I would really appreciate it. Thank you very much!

  3. Thank you for the response! I got Stoik converter, but that only allows me to convert WMV/ASF to AVI. I'm affraid that if I convert it to AVI first and then to MPEG, I will lose some of the quality. Is there any method to convert it to MPEG directly from WMV/ASF. Does anyone know of another method that may solve my problem? Thank you very much!

  4. Conversion tp AVI will not lose much quality - it depends on the codec used for the AVI - using huffyuv of even indeo at highest quality will preserve things ok.

  5. So, basically, my only option is to convert it to from WMV/ASF to AVI and then from AVI to MPEG, right? Thanks!
