  1. I am ripping a movie (Out Cold) and its 4.86GB. I dont just want to get the movie because I could just use DVD2One for that. I would like to keep the extras, or at least the deleted scenes. Is there some way I could get rid of extra audio tracks and subtitles (just need english audio and english sub).

  2. When I use IFOedit and open the main IFO it says that ive exceeded by 491 megs. How much is a typical audio track?

  3. It varies, but ~75MB for double surround, and ~150MB for DTS are good bet. Figure subtitles (if you've got them) are ~30-50MB. You might be able to strip out all the other audio tracks and subtracks and get it down to 4.7gb

Truth is you'll have to try to actually find out.

    1) Rip whole DVD to HD

    2) Use IFOEdit to generate new VOB/IFO files with just movie and one audio track

    3) Erase VOBs containing movie

    4) Replace with new VOBs

    5) Run IFOUpdate

    6) Check size, if ok burn

See the final steps of the guide below for more info (you only need to worry about the last step as IFOEdit authore the new VOBs, no need to strip chapters, subs, re-encode, etc.):

What exactly does Ifoupdate do? When must it be used? Do you have to use it on every stripped movie??

I've only used Ifoupdate once (Signs backup), when I had to re-encode and re-author (kept main menu/extras).. I imported the original IFO file into the first field and the re-authored into the 2nd; then a location for the .bak file.. But I thought I had to use it b/c I re-authored..

    thx.

  5. Vejita-sama, the movie itself is small enough to go onto the DVDR, but I want to keep the deleted scenes. There is a trailer that I can get rid of thats 120 megs or so, but I need to get rid of 491. Sadly, I think that I am going to have to do some kind of re-encode on the movie to shrink it or just give up and only get the movie backed up.

  6. It looks like I might just have to buy the new Pinnacle Instacopy when it gets released, unless the DVD2One guy can get a new rev out that will give you an option to get the whole disk, not just the movie and audio and subs. I would much rather support a freelance programmer than the corporations.

  7. I understand that you want to keep the extras. I was saying that since the size you need to lose is so small that you could strip out the 'unwanted' audio and subtitle tracks and that might make the movie small enough to fit WHILE KEEPING the extras.

I thought that was your original question when you asked about the average size of the encoded audio file/s???

  8. Its 4.86GB, and since DVDRs only hold 4.37 I have to eliminate 491 megs, which cant be done with just 1 audio track and 2 subtitle tracks.

  9. DTWells2k2,

I'm assuming you've already stipped the movie itself of all languages and subtitles, save English.. But have you looked to see if there's more than 1 audio track for the extras? For examply, for my backup of xXx, I noticed that a couple of the extras had 2 audio tracks (unless I mis-read IFOedit)--so I stripped one, thereby, reducing total size of movie and extras..

  10. jbenj01, no I havent ripped the audio yet, I just ripped all the files to the HD. How exactly would I go about ripping the audios and subtitles now? Im not to good with IFOEdit, so if its with that I would need a little mini tutorial
